Description
‘Reindeer Gallop’ by Alison Mathews is a beginners duet with a herding call and sleigh bells! Both the pre-reader and on-stave version are in a 5 finger position (D-A) with one movement for the jingling bells. The on-stave version is slightly more difficult but you can play the pre-reader version with one hand. The teacher part adds to the galloping fun!

I bought Alison Mathews’ delightful bundle containing three versions of the Reindeer Gallop and can thoroughly recommend them. I used the three different versions with children ranging from absolute beginners to those of approximately Initial Grade level during their last lesson before Christmas and everybody managed to play something successfully during their lesson because of the way that the pieces are constructed. Apart from just playing the pieces as they are, I found that there was a lot of scope for making up a story based round the different sections of the piece and also for some creative work which could be added at the start and finish or even between the sections. I consider that this was money well-spent and I had as much fun playing the duets as my pupils did. The pieces can also be enjoyed as part of a winter theme which makes them suitable for pupils who don’t celebrate Christmas.
