How to play Up, Down Repeat: Ear Training Game

To begin with, place half of the going up, going down, and repeating cards face up in three piles in front of the student. Then, shuffle the remaining cards and place them all face down in front of the piles (face down cards should be spread out not in a pile).

Give the student five tokens or coins and the teacher also gets 5.

Next, the teacher plays notes going up, going down, or repeating (you can make it as hard or as easy as you like!). The student picks a card up from their face up piles that matches what the teacher plays.

Afterwards, they choose from the face down cards to see if they can get a match. With a ‘guess again’ card, they get a chance to choose again. A matching cards means that the pair goes to the side and the student keeps a coin. If they don’t match, place the cards back in play and teacher keeps a coin.

Whoever gets all five coins first, or has the most when all the pairs are found wins.
